the a-listed neighborhood edit: flatiron

If you’ve been following along here on a-listed for a while, you know that Chris and I moved to Dumbo last fall and are just recently really feeling settled into our new ‘hood. There’s inevitably a bittersweet feeling that comes along with leaving Manhattan, but now that we’ve gotten to know our neighborhood more we absolutely love it.

What you might not know though, is that I work full time in digital marketing at a PR firm in New York’s Flatiron District. It’s such a nice neighborhood to work in because it’s a mecca of convenience—so many restaurants for lunch, happy hours and afternoon breaks, easy access on the subway, and, perhaps most importantly, very picturesque sights on every corner. Here, I’m sharing my top five places to hang out in my 9-to-5 New York neighborhood.

1 – Madison Square Park

This is at the top of my list, hands down. In the warmer months I love picking up a frozen juice from Pressed Juicery and taking a break in the sunshine with a co-worker or two. I really feel like I can tackle my afternoon to-do list after a bit of people watching and a healthy snack. If you’re in the mood for a not-so-healthy snack, the Shake Shack is always worth a pit stop.

2 – Cha Cha Matcha

I am literally addicted to matcha and, in my humble opinion, Cha Cha Matcha has the best one in the city. I fell in love with the spot when it opened in Nolita, where we lived before we went to Dumbo. Then one day about a month ago I was walking down the street with a co-worker and spotted the new outpost that had popped up seemingly overnight. I gasped so loudly that my friend thought I saw a rat. Only in New York…. Other neighborhood coffee faves include Birch, Gasoline Alley and Fika.

3 – Hillstone

Hillstone is right down the street from my office, and was truly unknown to me before I started at my job last summer. Surprisingly, their American classics like steak and Caesar salad are just as incredible as their sushi. Insider’s Tip: Get a reservation before you go and bring a couple of bottles of wine with you. They have an off-the-menu option to bring in up to two bottles per table for a $25 corkage fee. Major score.

4 – Daily Provisions

After a long week of attempting to bring my lunch, workout and just generally be healthy, I am always ready for a little cheat day on Friday. Enter: Daily Provisions. This breakfast outpost has amazing breakfast sandwiches and cinnamon sugar crullers. To ease the guilt, I usually meet up with my co-worker and split one of each before heading off to the office. If you’re going to do it, might as go big, right?

5 – Work It Out

On the flip side of eating breakfast sandwiches and bringing your own wine to dinner is hitting a great workout class. This neighborhood has so many good classes in proximity to my office, such as Y7 Yoga, Flybarre, Mile High Run Club and classes at Bandier’s Studio B, just to name a few.
